Week Two: Improvement!

Week Two Start Date: Jan. 18, 2016

Oh, thank God week one is over! I survived!! I even survived without wine!! Don't get me wrong, the cray cray train still has a stop or two left before it reaches the station, but this week I was able to take a moment to stop and smell a few roses. Yes folks, I actually stepped back and acknowledged some improvements.

At the end of August when I started at the gym, I could barely do one men's push up, I can now do 15. I used to struggle with 3 lb weights during sculpt class, I now use 6 lb. weights. I used to hide in the back of the class, I now stand in the front row. I'm starting to see muscles where there once was marshmallow-like flab. Minimal as they were, I actually had a couple of moments where the thought "Yeah, I got this!" popped into my head. Of course it was immediately replaced by "Oh shit, not burpees again!" but the fact that it showed up is what is important.

Lesson for week two? Even when you have lots of room for improvement in some (or many) areas of your life, it is important to take the time to recognize improvements and small successes along the way. For some reason, many people think that they can't acknowledge success until the entire task is complete. We focus so intently on what we're trying to make better that our smaller accomplishments get lost in the process. Take a minute, stop and smell the roses and remind yourself that you got this. Even if you have to do burpees afterwards...especially if you have to do burpees afterwards.
